Reaching a limit never costs money. The request is refused until the limit resets. Limits and errors has the full list, with the size limits and a few technical ones that most people never meet.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account to make charts?
No. Making and downloading charts is free and needs no signup: open the graph maker, add your data and download a PNG or SVG. A free account lets you save up to 5 charts and gives you 3 AI tries.
Is the API free, and can I connect an AI assistant on the Free plan?
Yes. The API and connecting an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT are part of every plan, Free included, at no extra cost. Both work within your plan's limits. On Free, that means up to 5 saved charts and the chartjuice.com mark on pictures. Pro has unlimited saved charts and no mark. The docs show how to connect an assistant or create an API key.
What are the rate limits?
An account can send 60 requests a minute through the API or a connected assistant. That is the same on Free and Pro. Pictures of saved charts are counted by the day: 100 on Free and 2,000 on Pro. Image renders are counted by the month: 100 on Free and 1,000 on Pro. Days and months are in UTC. Limits and errors lists every limit.
What is the image API, and what counts as an image render?
The image API turns a chart into a picture without anyone opening the editor. The part that needs no code is the image link: in the editor, choose Download, then Copy image link, and paste the link into an email, a Notion page or a website. The picture it shows follows the chart as you edit it. Code and AI assistants can also draw a chart from data, or draw a saved chart with new data. Each different picture is one image render a month, however many people look at it. A link counts once each time its chart changes, and once at the start of each month. Free has 100 renders a month, with the chartjuice.com mark on the picture, and Pro has 1,000 with no mark. Chart images has the steps.
What happens when I reach a limit?
Nothing is charged, and nothing is deleted. A request past a limit is refused with a message that names the limit, and it works again when the limit resets: after the minute, at midnight UTC, or on the 1st of the month. An image link whose picture has not been counted that month shows a grey picture that says "Chart unavailable" until the 1st. Links already counted keep working. At 5 saved charts on Free, you can still edit the charts you have, and make and download new ones without saving them.
How do seats work on Pro?
Pro includes 3 seats on one subscription: one for you and 2 for teammates. If your team needs more, Business will add more seats.
Is yearly billing cheaper, and can I cancel anytime?
Yearly is $120, which works out to $10 a month, so you get 2 months free compared with paying $12 monthly. You can cancel anytime: open Manage billing on your account page to cancel or change your card. Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for, then your account goes back to Free. Your saved charts stay.
When is Business coming?
