These terms are an agreement between you and Disco Shrimp Company, LLC ("we", "us" or "our"), which runs Chartjuice at chartjuice.com. They cover the website, the chart maker, accounts, the AI assistant, the API, apps you connect and the paid plans, which these terms call "Chartjuice" for short. Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with your data, and our Refund Policy explains when we give refunds.
Agreeing to these terms
By using Chartjuice, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it. If you use Chartjuice for a company or another organization, you're agreeing to these terms for it, and you confirm that you're allowed to do that.
Who can use Chartjuice
You must be at least 13 years old to use Chartjuice. If the law where you live sets a higher minimum age for using an online service like this one, you must be at least that age. To buy Pro, you must be old enough to enter a binding contract where you live, or have a parent or guardian buy it for you.
Your account
You can make and download charts without an account. To save charts or use the AI assistant, you need a free account. You sign in with a code or link we email you, or with Google, so there's no password to remember.
Use an email address that you check and that only you control: anyone who can read your email can sign in as you. You're responsible for what happens in your account. If you think someone else has gotten into it, email us at support@chartjuice.com.
Using Chartjuice fairly
Please don't:
- break the law, or use Chartjuice to deceive, defraud or harass anyone
- put data into Chartjuice that you don't have the right to use, or use it to infringe anyone's rights, including their privacy
- try to get into accounts, charts or systems that aren't yours, or probe our security without our permission (if you find a problem, tell us at support@chartjuice.com)
- overload or disrupt Chartjuice, scrape it, or get around its usage limits, for example with scripts or extra accounts (to use Chartjuice from a program, use the API, within its limits)
- use the AI assistant to make anything harmful or illegal, or try to make it ignore its instructions
- resell Chartjuice or access to it, or copy it to build a competing product
- share one account or one Pro seat among several people (each seat is for one person)
Your charts and your data
You own the data you bring to Chartjuice and the charts you make with it. You can use your charts however you like, including for commercial work, as long as you have the rights to the data in them. We don't claim ownership of any of it.
To run Chartjuice, we need your permission to store, process and display your content, and you give it to us only for that purpose. For example, we use it to save a chart to your account, to make the small preview image in My charts, to send part of your chart to an AI model when you ask the assistant for help, and to hand your charts to a program or an app that you've given a key or connected. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account.
Charts made on the free plan show a small chartjuice.com mark in the designer, on downloads and on images made through the API. Please leave it in place: don't crop, cover or edit it out. Pro removes it.
You're responsible for the data you put into Chartjuice and for the charts you publish. Keep your own copy of any data that matters to you.
Our service and brand
Chartjuice itself belongs to us or the people we license it from. That includes the software, the design, the text on the site, and the Chartjuice name and logo. These terms let you use Chartjuice as we offer it. They don't give you ownership of it or the right to use our name or logo. Using our presets, palettes and example charts in the charts you make is fine.
If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.
The AI assistant
The assistant uses an AI model to answer your questions and change your chart for you. AI makes mistakes. It can misread your data, choose the wrong chart, or describe something inaccurately. Check every chart before you use or publish it. You're responsible for the charts you put out, and the assistant's answers aren't professional, legal, financial or medical advice.
A free account can try the assistant 3 times in total. Pro includes 50 messages a day. We may change these limits, and we may pause the assistant for a while, for example if the AI model provider has an outage or our daily costs run unusually high.
The API and connected apps
Chartjuice has an API, and a server for AI assistants that works the same way (it uses a standard called MCP). Through them, a program you write or an AI assistant you connect can make, change, export and delete the charts in your account. They are part of every plan, the free one included, within your plan's limits and the request and image limits listed on the Limits and errors page of our docs.
API keys
An API key lets a program act on your charts. Treat it like a password: keep it out of web pages and public code, don't share it, and revoke it on your account page if it gets out. You're responsible for everything done with your keys.
Apps you connect
When you connect an app, such as an AI assistant, you're letting it act for you, and what it does with your charts counts as you doing it. That includes deleting them, which can't be undone. The page where you allow an app lists what it can and can't do. You can disconnect an app at any time on your account page.
Connected apps are made and run by other companies, not by us. We aren't responsible for what they do, for mistakes an AI assistant makes, or for how their makers handle what you send them. Only connect apps you trust, and check a chart an assistant made before you use or publish it.
Image links
An image link shows one of your charts as a picture to anyone who has the link. You decide where a link goes, and you're responsible for what the chart shows to the people who see it. A link stops working when you rotate or revoke the key it was signed with, delete the chart, or delete your account, and it shows a "Chart unavailable" picture once your plan's image renders for the month are used up. We may also stop a link that breaks these terms.
Using the API fairly
The rules under "Using Chartjuice fairly" apply to the API and to anything you connect. On top of those, please don't:
- send requests faster than the limits allow, or spread your use across accounts or keys to get around them
- use the API to offer chart-making to other people as a service of your own, or to copy Chartjuice
- remove the chartjuice.com mark from images made on the free plan
- give a connected app or a key to someone else to use as their own
We may change the API, add to it or set new limits. We may also revoke a key, or cut off an app, that breaks these terms or puts Chartjuice or other people at risk.
Plans and billing
Free
Making and downloading charts is free and doesn't need an account. With a free account you can save up to 5 charts and get 3 AI tries.
Pro
Pro costs $12 a month or $120 a year, in US dollars. It removes the chartjuice.com mark and adds unlimited saved charts, the AI assistant with 50 messages a day, a brand palette (including colors pulled from a website you choose), and 3 seats: you plus 2 teammates. The pricing page lists what each plan includes.
Business
Business isn't available yet. Joining its early-access list is free, doesn't commit you to anything, and nothing is charged.
Payment
Stripe processes our payments. When you upgrade, you enter your card details on Stripe's checkout page, and we never see or store your full card number. By upgrading, you authorize us, through Stripe, to charge your payment method for each billing period until you cancel.
Automatic renewal
Pro renews automatically at the end of each billing period, monthly or yearly depending on what you chose, and your payment method is charged the current Pro price each time. It keeps renewing until you cancel.
Cancelling
You can cancel any time in Manage billing on your account page. You won't be charged again, and Pro stays on until the end of the period you've already paid for. After that your account goes back to the free plan. You keep every chart you saved, but you can't save new ones while you have 5 or more. Your teammates lose Pro when you do.
Deleting your account cancels your subscription.
Failed payments
If a renewal payment fails, Stripe tries the card again over the following days. Pro stays on while it does, and you can update your card in Manage billing. If the payment still doesn't go through, the subscription is canceled and your account goes back to the free plan.
Price changes
We may change the price of Pro. If we do, we'll email you at least 30 days before the new price applies to you, and it will start with your next renewal after that notice. If you don't want to pay the new price, cancel before it starts.
Refunds
Our Refund Policy explains when we refund a charge. Nothing in these terms takes away refund rights you have under the law where you live.
Ending your use of Chartjuice
You can stop using Chartjuice at any time. You can also delete your account from your account page. Deleting your account deletes your saved charts and their preview images, ends your API keys and the apps you connected, and cancels your Pro subscription if you have one.
We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if your use puts other people or Chartjuice at risk, or if the law requires us to. When it's reasonable, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem. If we close your account for any other reason, we'll refund the unused part of any Pro period you've paid for.
We may change Chartjuice or stop offering parts of it. If we stop offering Pro, we'll tell you in advance and refund the unused part of any Pro period you've paid for.
Disclaimers
We work hard to keep Chartjuice running and correct, but we provide it "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises about Chartjuice beyond the ones in these terms. That includes implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that Chartjuice will always be available or free of errors, or that saved data can never be lost.
Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, that come from Chartjuice or these terms
- our total liability for all claims about Chartjuice or these terms is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or 50 US dollars
These limits apply whatever the legal theory, even if we were told the damage was possible. Some places don't allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited, such as liability for fraud.
Indemnity
If someone makes a claim against us because of content you put into Chartjuice, or because you broke these terms or the law, you agree to cover our reasonable costs from that claim, including legal fees. This doesn't apply to the extent the claim was caused by something we did wrong.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. If a change matters to you, we'll tell you before it takes effect, by email or with a notice in Chartjuice. If you keep using Chartjuice after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms. If you don't accept them, stop using Chartjuice, and you can cancel Pro and delete your account.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, USA, without regard to its conflict of law rules. You and we agree that the courts in the State of Georgia have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute about Chartjuice or these terms. If you're a consumer living outside the US, you also keep any protections that the law of your country gives you and that a contract can't take away.
If you have a problem with Chartjuice, please email us first. Most problems can be sorted out that way.
Other legal points
- If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- If we don't enforce part of these terms right away, we can still enforce it later.
- You can't transfer your rights under these terms to someone else without our agreement. We may transfer ours, for example if Chartjuice is sold, and these terms will keep applying.
- These terms, the Privacy Policy and the Refund Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Chartjuice.
